Histories

While we focus much of this website on the River Bend Nature Center and how it came to be, as well as its immediate predecessor the Faribault Regional Center, that is not the only history of this land. Before the Regional Center’s creation this land was home to the Dakota People, whose life was violently disrupted by the U.S. Government during the Dakota Wars. The history of the people however, extends to today, though they no longer live on this land. Additionally, though not a part of RBNC, some of the legacy of the Regional Center can be see in the Minnesota State Correctional Facility located adjacent to the RBNC.

In this section of the website we record these histories, and though they are by far not the only histories of this land, we hope they help provide a more complete picture of the area.
